Fayette County Public Schools To Redraw Boundries

As Fayette County Public Schools faces the difficult task of redrawing school attendance boundaries in advance of opening three new schools, district leaders need to start the work by listening. This is the first time in more than a decade that FCPS has considered such widespread changes to the attendance zones.
A volunteer committee of parents, employees and community members has met three times to begin looking at relevant data.  Before they dig into the work of considering maps, FCPS will hold listening sessions to gather input from the community.  The next session is scheduled for:

  • 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday July 10 at Lafayette High School, 401 Reed Lane
  • 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 24 at FCPS Warehouse Facility, 1126 Russel Cave Road.

Future meetings are scheduled for November 20 and December 8.
Each forum will begin with a presentation (link to presentation) and overview, followed by facilitated small-group discussions to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to be heard.  A member of the school zone committee will sit in each small group session to hear the feedback directly, and the groups will share out before the end of the forum.
Everyone is invited and welcome to attend. FCPS also encourages people to use www.fcps.net/letstalk, where each comment submitted online is shared with all of the committee members. Relevant information is also posted at www.fcps.net/zones.

Fayette County parents express concerns about redistricting at second public forum

Here are comments from a Greenbrier neighbor who attended the meeting at Lafayette:

The meeting was split up into 9 groups that worked together as teams and addressed their three major concerns.  Later, a representative from each group stood up and shared concerns with all groups.  The OVERWHELMING response by all was to keep students near there local school…….keeping neighborhoods strong.
There have been no decisions made on any of the zone changes according to Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent, Tom Shelton.

I would encourage everyone to attend the next few meeting if you can.  It is possible to be left out.
